What is Runner's High Magazine all about?
Running seems to have embraced the best of us. Each day we get out there, a little bit of our soul is taken away, and in turn, a whole lot more is added. Nobody can explain that feeling of happiness afterwards, nor can they explain the sense of dread that comes before. But one thing is certain, and it’s that running unites people and builds the strongest bonds of friendship that someone could imagine. Here at Runner’s High, we want to bring the best of running out to everyone who decides to lace their shoes up a few times a week. Whether it’s for losing weight, for getting faster, or just for having fun, we are all runners, and we are all family. Last Christmas, I was out on the sidewalks, my running shoes snug on my feet and my body struggling to keep balance as I slipped on the ice. Eventually, I did tumble, but luckily, a fellow runner came along almost immediately and helped me up. This woman I’d never met in my entire life, who owed nothing to me and didn’t have to even give me so much as a passing glance, took time out of her run to help me. She resembled brilliantly what the running community is about -- caring, a sense of selflessness, and the idea that we are all in this together. It may be hard to get out there some days, when it’s too hot or you just aren’t feeling great, but it’s nice to have an entire group of people, most of whom you haven’t and won’t ever meet, to rely upon when you do decide to finally open that door and embrace the outside world. Runner’s High goes out to all the runners who decide that their life is in their own hands, and who make a difference in their lives each and every day through the sport that all of us have come to love so much.
